Corrections

Corrections policy

We correct mistakes quickly and in the open. A correction is a promise kept to the reader, not an embarrassment to hide.

How we correct

  • Errors of fact — a wrong figure, name, title, date or quotation — are corrected in the story, and a dated note at the end says what was wrong and what is right.
  • A serious error, one that changes what the story means, gets its note at the top of the story, where every reader will see it.
  • If a story's central claim turns out to be wrong, we say so at the top, explain what happened, and keep the story online with that explanation rather than quietly deleting it.
  • Typing and spelling slips that change no meaning are fixed without a note.

We never change a fact in a published story without saying so.

How to report an error

Write to editor@himilopost.com with the link to the story, what you believe is wrong and, if you can, a source that shows the correct information. Every request is read by an editor. We check it against the sources, and if we were wrong, we correct the story and tell you.

Requests to change or remove stories

We correct errors; we do not remove accurate reporting because someone would prefer it gone. If you are named in a story and believe it is unfair or out of date, write to us and explain why — we will consider it carefully.

Read how stories are reported and checked in the first place in our editorial standards.
